Answer all parts:
(a) Solve the equations:
(i) 3x−2=−143x - 2 = -14
(ii) 7x+11=26−3x7x + 11 = 26 - 3x
(b) Solve the simultaneous equations. You must show all your working:
5x+3y=−155x + 3y = -15
3x+5y=−173x + 5y = -17
(c) Solve the inequality:
∣2x+1∣>9|2x + 1| > 9
Formula Guide:
(a)(i) 3x = -14 + 2 = -12 => x = -4.
(a)(ii) 7x + 3x = 26 - 11 => 10x = 15 => x = 1.5.
(b) Multiply (1) by 3: 15x + 9y = -45. Multiply (2) by 5: 15x + 25y = -85. Subtract: 16y = -40 => y = -2.5. Substitute: 5x + 3(-2.5) = -15 => 5x = -7.5 => x = -1.5.
(c) |2x + 1| > 9 means 2x + 1 > 9 or 2x + 1 < -9.
2x > 8 => x > 4, or 2x < -10 => x < -5.
